Active in Mind, Youth Sports Trust
On Friday, a group of students from years 9 and 10 had the exciting opportunity to spend a day working with Paralympic Champion Mel Clarke. Mel is a Paralympic silver medallist archer who now works with the Youth Sports Trust, an organisation whose mission is to promote the wellbeing of children through the provision of sporting opportunity. As one of their athlete mentors, Mel shared her inspirational sporting journey with our students and they took part in challeneges throughout the day based of healthy habits and a leading a more positive and active lifestyle.
The programme will run for the next few months to enable the year 10 studnets nominated as 'Young Mental Health Champions' to work closely with the year 9 nurture group. Some of the aims of the programme are to use physical activity and sport as a tool to improve well being and to raise awareness and de-stigmatise mental illness. The group were so inspired by Mel that they have already begun planning their sessions and can't wait for her to return to the school at the end of the programme to see what they have achieved!
