Values and Ethos

Welcome to North Bromsgrove High School

At North Bromsgrove High School, we are proud to be a caring, ambitious and inclusive community where every student is supported to achieve their very best. As part of the Shires Multi Academy Trust, we are committed to providing an exceptional education that combines academic excellence with strong character development, ensuring that young people are equipped for success in an ever-changing world.

Our guiding principle, "Studies Determine Character," reflects our belief that education is about more than achieving qualifications. Through high expectations, positive relationships and a commitment to personal growth, we help students develop the knowledge, skills and values they need to become confident, responsible and compassionate citizens.

Our CARE values

Community Aspiration Respect Endeavour

Everything we do is underpinned by our four core values:

Community

We believe that everyone belongs at North Bromsgrove. We foster a culture of kindness, collaboration and support where students, staff, families and the wider community work together to help every individual thrive. We celebrate diversity and encourage students to contribute positively to school life and the wider community. Through charity fundraising, community events, volunteering opportunities and partnerships with local organisations, students learn the importance of giving back and making a difference.

Aspiration

We encourage all students to be ambitious for themselves and their futures. Through a broad, knowledge-rich curriculum and a wide range of enrichment opportunities, we inspire students to aim high, embrace challenge and develop a lifelong love of learning.

Respect

Respect is at the heart of our school culture. We promote dignity, fairness and understanding in all interactions. Students are encouraged to value different viewpoints, celebrate diversity and contribute to an inclusive environment where everyone feels safe, respected and valued.

Endeavour

We believe success is achieved through commitment, resilience and hard work. We encourage students to persevere when faced with challenges, take pride in their achievements and continually strive to improve. Endeavour helps our students develop the confidence and determination needed for future success.

High Expectations

At North Bromsgrove, we have high expectations of ourselves and each other. We are committed to creating a calm, purposeful and supportive learning environment where students feel safe and secure to fulfil their potential academically and personally.

We are dedicated to ensuring that:

• Every student receives a high-quality education.
Learning is engaging, challenging and inclusive.
Positive behaviour supports learning and wellbeing.
Achievement is celebrated and success is recognised.

Inclusion and Belonging

We are proud of our inclusive ethos and our commitment to ensuring every young person has the opportunity to succeed. We recognise that students have different starting points, strengths and needs, and we work closely with families and external agencies to provide the support necessary for all students to make excellent progress.

Our aim is that every student feels known, valued and understood, developing confidence, self-belief and a strong sense of belonging within our school community.

Character Education and Personal Development

We believe education extends beyond the classroom. Through our CARE curriculum, assemblies, tutor programme, enrichment activities, leadership opportunities and wider personal development provision, students develop the qualities needed to thrive in modern society.

We support students to become:

Resilient and independent learners.

Effective communicators.

Responsible and active citizens.

Respectful members of diverse communities.

Confident leaders of the future.

Our programme of personal development helps students broaden their horizons, understand their responsibilities and prepare for successful futures in education, employment and beyond.

British Values and Citizenship

British Values are embedded throughout school life and promote the principles of:

Democracy

The Rule of Law

Individual Liberty

Mutual Respect

Tolerance of Different Faiths and Beliefs

These values are reinforced through our curriculum, assemblies, student leadership opportunities, House Council and wider school experiences. We encourage students to think critically, engage respectfully with others and make a positive contribution to society.

Embracing our CARE values

There are many ways in which our staff and students reflect the school’s values, whether through taught lessons or enrichment opportunities:

Community and charity events are a regular feature of our school Calendar. Fundraising activities for local and national charities are chosen by students and staff. In 2025-6, we have supported Children in Need, Comic Relief, DKHS and Soccer Aid as well as West Merica Support Centre and the Basement Project.

A range of House competitions including our House Hyrox and community events such as Mental Health Awareness Week and Pride, along with our Live Lounge performances, which bring students together while supporting charitable initiatives.

Aspiration is encouraged both inside and outside of the classroom. University trips, university lecturer visitors, university and apprenticeships fairs, Year 10 Aspiration Day, Post 18 Decisions-Day and STEM activities are just some ways in which we embrace this value.

Student leadership opportunities, including House Council and ambassador roles, where students help shape school improvement and represent the views of their peers, highlighting the respect we have for all students.

Endeavour is celebrated with awards events throughout the year with our Learning Legends, termly Celebration Assemblies and End of Year Awards Evening.

Participation in Remembrance activities and awareness campaigns such as Holocaust 360 that develop social responsibility and civic pride.

Enrichment activities are also key to our school and embrace the CARE values. Alongside our school clubs, recent successes include our musical Hadestown, Northfest, the Shires Christmas Carol Concert and the Summer Showcase at the Artrix, as well as our Colour Run and the Shires Olympics. We are also proud to be support the This Girl Can campaign. Furthermore, trips form a vital part of fostering our values. These include our annual London Musical trip, bi-annual ski trip and our Duke of Edinburgh scheme.
