Scholars Programme

The Scholars’ Programme and HPQ

This Scholars’ Programme is an exciting initiative designed to challenge and inspire our most academically able students, preparing them for further success in their educational journey and beyond.  As we are trialing this, participation will initially be by invitation only.

January – Easter 2025

From January to Easter, students will participate in a series of enrichment sessions designed to stretch their critical thinking, research, and academic skills. These sessions will be created by subject specialists and focus on topics beyond the standard curriculum, encouraging intellectual curiosity and a passion for learning.

Super-curricular challenges: students will also be challenged to complete some “super-curricular” tasks set by departments for which they can earn badges. These challenges can be accessed by clicking on the relevant subject badges below.

The Higher Project Qualification (HPQ)

Following the Scholars Programme, students will have the opportunity to undertake the Higher Project Qualification (HPQ) during the Summer Term 2025 and into the Autumn Term 2025.

The HPQ is a nationally recognized qualification equivalent to half a GCSE and allows students to:

  • Independently research and complete an extended project on a topic of their choice.
  • Develop vital skills such as academic research, time management, and presentation.
  • Gain a head start in preparing for future studies, including A-Levels and beyond.

The Higher Project Qualification also acts as a stepping stone for students who may wish to tackle the EPQ (Extended Project Qualification) as part of their sixth form studies.

Participation in the Scholars’ Programme and the HPQ requires a high level of commitment from students, including time spent on independent research and project work. However, the benefits are significant, including enhanced academic skills, a valuable qualification, and a sense of achievement.
