Transition to North
Transition is not a one-off day or week at North, it is a process that begins when our students are in middle school and goes far beyond the first week of term.
We work closely with all schools that send their children to us, whether that is moving from Year 8 to Year 9 or wanting to come to us at a later stage. Staff at those schools give us a clear overview of attendance, behaviour and any SEND needs. In addition to this, we get a clear picture of any pastoral issues to be aware of when taking the next step with us in order to give all students the best chance of making friends and settling.
All new students in Year 9 will have their first day in school as the only year group in the building as we stagger our start each year to settle the year groups into their timetables and curriculum. In addition to this, students in Year 9 will have an early lunch to become familiar with the canteen and build confidence navigating the school building.
For the vast majority of students, the usual transition process is sufficient to build confidence and ensure students are settled, but we know that for some, we need to add in an additional layer of support in order to make the process as smooth as possible. This varies depending on the need identified but we are here to listen and help.
We can't wait to meet you and welcome you into our North family!
