The Maths department at North Bromsgrove High School are proud to continue their partnership with GLOW Maths Hub to train Math teachers from across Gloucestershire, Worcestershire and beyond.
Mr Man has been a Local Leader for Mathematics Education (LLME) for GLOW Maths Hub since September 2022, and has led on the "Developing A Level pedagogy" workgroup, specialising in training A Level Maths teachers from across the GLOW network.

This year, the focus is on mathematical modelling, one of the overarching themes for A Level Maths.
In order to deliver the three whole day training sessions, Mr Man has been involved in working with the local GLOW Maths Hub and the NCETM (National Centre of Excellence for the Teaching of Mathematics), receiving training on the latest trends of A Level Maths education, as well as training to become a PD (Professional Development) Lead.
Last Thursday (6th February), nine participants (A Level Maths teachers) from across the GLOW network, came into North to receive their second day of training. The first part of the training was on collaborative planning, where the participants worked in groups of two or three, to plan on an element of the lesson, for Mr Man to deliver the lesson to his Year 13 Maths group. The lesson was on "Modelling with trigonometry". They were only given 90 minutes to plan the lesson.
The second part of the training involved the nine participants observing Mr Man with his Year 13 Maths lesson. The students responded brilliantly and worked brilliantly in the lesson, despite all of the students (and Mr Man himself!) feeling nervous with the high number of participants watching and making notes on the lesson.
The final part of the training allowed the participants to reflect and to analyse deeply about the lesson. Plenty of discussions were involved where the participants reviewed what areas went well, how it can be improved, and how they can bring this lesson to their own classrooms.
The feedback from the participants was extremely positive. One participant said that "It was lots of fun. Always good watching someone else teach". Another said, "I enjoyed working collaboratively and think it would be a good exercise to take to my department." And a third participant said, "Lots of interesting feedback, was really interesting to talk about as a team. I like the idea of taking this approach to our own schools."
The Maths department at NBHS are blessed to have three teachers that are involved with GLOW - Mr Man with A Level, Mr Harper with teaching for mastery for Years 9 to 11, and Mrs Barnes in training to become a teaching for mastery specialist.
We would like to thank the school's leadership team for their continued working partnership with GLOW Maths Hub, and to GLOW Maths Hub for their support in assisting NBHS and training and develop teachers from the Maths department to become leaders in their specialist field.
