North Bromsgrove High School Celebrates Careers Events

North Bromsgrove High School is celebrating the success of their recent Career events held during Lockdown. Despite the challenges of Remote Learning, the school has continued to deliver a full programme of Careers activities, all aimed to prepare their students for the world of work.

In February, the school celebrated National Apprenticeship Week by sharing a range of virtual workshops and talks from young apprentices in a wide range of roles from nursing to the British Armed Forces. Last week, to mark National Careers Week, students were encouraged to work with their parents and carers on a plethora of activities including a parent-friendly explanation of post-16 and post-18 pathways, ideas for how parents can initiate conversations with their children about careers and an invitation to National Careers Week’s Virtual Jobs Fair. In lessons, students were asked to reflect on their competencies and how they have learnt new skills in areas such as IT and communication during Lockdown. The week was underpinned by a popular daily Who Worked Where? Competition on the school’s social media pages where students had to guess the jobs staff had held before they worked in a school.

Claire Bishop, Careers Lead at North Bromsgrove High School said: ‘With an ever-changing job landscape it is always important that our students receive a strong Careers education to support their future choices. However, this year it is estimated that, as a result of the pandemic, 27% of young people nationally have already changed their Career plans and therefore it is vital that our students are equipped with the right skills set to succeed in a wide range of jobs. The students and our parents/carers have responded very positively to the two weeks of activities and we look forward to building on this success when we return to school.’
