U14 Girls County Cup Champion Champions Once Again

Our newly established Year 9 Girls' Football team this year began their Worcestershire Schools Football campaign with an away fixture at The Chase. It was a very cold evening in December, but the girls were ready to take them on and get a win under their belts. The game was a very close tie with it ending 0.0. Extra time was played and still no goals, so we headed to penalties. There was a very tense atmosphere, but with our girls slotting them past their keeper and our keeper Mia doing her bit between the sticks, the girls were triumphant winning 3.1 on penalties!

The girls then went on to the next round of the cup, another away fixture, against Tudor Grange. It was a tight game from the kick off, but the girls fought hard to come out with a 2.0 win. The goals came from Elinor and Chloe.

With the girls on a high from their previous win they were ready to take on Arrowvale in the semi-final. They had a shaky start with a few chances missed to take them ahead. The girls relaxed into the game and went 2.0 up in the first half. They were playing well, and the final was in their sights…. then arrowvale managed to get through and put one past our keeper! This unsettled the girls for a moment, but they were soon back to their composed selves with their injured captain Grace on the sidelines giving them the support and encouragement they needed. They held on and were heading to the final with the game finishing up 2.1. Both goals from Elinor.

The day was finally here. The County Cup final. North Bromsgrove vs Nunnery Wood at South Bromsgrove High School. The girls were ready. There were a couple of injuries amongst the squad but after a good warm up and some changes, we were ready. The girls got off to a good start, keeping the ball well and looking confident. Ten minutes in, we went 1.0 up with a long range shot from our left back Faith, which the keeper couldn’t handle. This gave the girls the thirst for success, and they knew the cup was getting closer to becoming theirs! The back of the net was found once again with a nice finish from Ruby. Concentration lacked at the end of the first half and a free kick was given away on the edge of the box which the Nunnery Wood striker buried into the goal. Half time 2.1.

The second half got underway, confidence was building, and another two goals were slotted past their keeper by our striker Elinor. As the game progressed Ruby found the back of the net again along with Elinor completing her Hatrick. Full time score 6.2. North Bromsgrove became the U14 Girls' County Cup Champions once again!
A fantastic effort from all the girls this year. Their commitment and desire to win has been second to none! Our thanks to Mrs Smith for all her expert guidance.
We are extremely proud of the girls along with the rest of the PE Department and are excited to see what they can achieve in next year’s competitions!
