Year 9 Scholars Programme

Our second enrichment session was designed to stretch the students' thinking and solve problems. Students were tasked with dropping an egg from approximately 30 feet to the floor without damaging the shell. Using only basic materials such as cereal packets, plastic bags, sellotape and string, working in teams, students were really creative with their methods. Some chose to "cushion" the fall, whilst others designed models attempting to "float" the egg to the ground more gradually. We're delighted to report that due to the ingenuity of the students, many of the eggs survived unscathed!

Our Scholars'' Programme is a new initiative designed to stretch the critical thinking, research and academic skills of some of our Year 9 students. We are doing this across a 10 week period encompassing enrichment sessions run by staff and visiting professionals. Students are also being challenged to complete super-curricular subject tasks to gain Scholars Badges. At the end of this period, it is hoped that many will put their new skills to the test by completing the Higher Project Qualification to gain accreditation and half a GCSE for their efforts.
